Children’s vision problems are sometimes obvious and other times there are no obvious signs or symptoms. You might suspect that your child has a vision problem if he or she squints, rubs his or her eyes, sits too close to the tv. However, even if your child does not do any of the above, he or she might still have a vision problem. It is very important that parents know what to look for if a vision problem goes undetected, it could affect your child’s learning experience in school. The best thing to do is to take your child to an optometrist who has experience working with children. Our Lauderhill optometrist, Dr. Bourjolly at 2020 Vision Place has the experience to diagnose and treat children’s vision problems.

Vision problems in children tend to emerge between 18 months and 4 years. The most common vision problems are crossed eye or wandering eye and uneven focus. When a child has cross eye or wandering eye, the eye tends to drift or can appear crossed in relation to the other eye. This affects 2-5 percent of children. Uneven focus is a condition that is harder to detect because children who have it have always seen that way and don’t realize there is a problem with their vision. If you notice anything abnormal about your child’s vision, you should take your child for an eye exam right away. It is best to take your child to a doctor who has experience working with children. Our Lauderhill eye doctor, Dr. Bourjolly at 2020 Vision Place has the expertise to diagnose and treat children’s eye problems.

Since some eye problems have no noticeable symptoms and can get worse without treatment, early detection is critical. Therefore, taking your child to an experienced optometrist for regular eye exams is necessary even if your child doesn’t seem to have a vision problem. One of the services we offer at our Lauderhill optometry practice at 2020 Vision Place is called “Primary Eye Care.” This includes both a comprehensive eye exam and an evaluation of eye disorders. If the doctor diagnoses your child with a vision problem, we do offer children’s vision treatment at our center.
